Do you hate your job?
I hate my job. Every morning I wake up miserable knowing I have to go into work. I spend Sundays in a funk because the next day is Monday. I’m a lawyer and always thought that making a lot of money would make me happy. Don’t get me wrong, I do like the money but I hate my job. I feel trapped because I need the money but the thought of doing this for the rest of my life is overwhelming. Help!
At the end of the day, you’re in charge of yourself. Money is great, yes but you don’t have to be a slave to it. If you hate your job, you need to quit but you also need to be smart about it. It sounds as if you’re only responsible for yourself financially which makes it a lot easier to change your life. You don’t have to be slave to money. You’re making the choice to do so.
You need to make a game plan. First, you need to figure out what you want to do and how to make it profitable. If you’ll make less money and can’t afford to, it’s time to start downsizing your life & saving your money.
- Trade in your expensive car for something more affordable.
- Downsize your home (if possible).
- Stop eating out. Pack your lunch.
- Stop buying designer clothing, purses & shoes. Start shopping consignment & second hand.
- Get rid of cable.
- Quit the gym & start running outside.
Make a budget and figure out exactly how much money you need to save to pay your bills for 1 year. On a lawyer’s salary, it probably won’t take that long once you stop bleeding money. Once you do this, it will give you the freedom to quit your job and switch to something you enjoy. You don’t have to be stuck in your job. The choice is yours.
