Manscaping | Does Your Body Hair Need To Go?

Manscaping is a term that has seeping to pop culture but isn’t main stream enough for my spell checker to overlook.  This seems appropriate because manscaping is a topic that can be controversial…  Manscaping doesn’t just refer to a man’s hair down there but to all men’s hair.  American women have been removing their unwanted hair forever but men never had to go to the trouble.  However pop culture introduced the image of tight hairless chests and backs and women liked what they saw.  Thus manscaping began.

Should You Manscape?

Manscaping can be broken down into 4 categories: face, back, chest and junk.  I’m going to address them all.

Manscape Your Face:

To grow facial hair or not?  There isn’t a straight answer on this one. These are the things to consider.  Is facial hair acceptable at work?  If yes, then I’d leave the decision up to your girlfriend or wife.  Some women love it, some hate it.  Single?  I’d try out different facial hair styles and determine which way you look the most attractive.  Don’t bother trying a mustache though; only Tom Selleck can pull that off and that’s because he’s worn one since it was popular (in the 70s).

Manscape Your Back:

This is a 100% must do.  A woman never dreams of running her hands through your soft back hair.   Luckily back hair is pretty easy to get rid of but you’re going to need some help. Shaving is easy but the most time consuming because you’ll have to be doing it almost every day (like your face).

I recommend two things.  Wax or Laser.  Waxing can last up to a month and is relatively inexpensive.  The only drawback is that it can be painful.  Just take it like a man and you’ll be fine.  The other option is laser hair removal. It’s permanent and takes 5-10 sessions over a 1 year period.  It’s more expensive but since it’s permanent, the cost will amortize out over time and actually end up being less expensive than waxing for the rest of your life.  Just makes sure you go to a licensed laser hair removal specialist who knows what they’re doing.

Manscape Your Chest:

This one can go either way.  Some women like hair on a man’s chest and other don’t.  Movie stars and models are almost always hairless (an exception to my right) which has a decent amount of influence over women.  Bottom line, a hairy chest is rarely a deal breaker so you can leave this decision to your personal preference.  If you do decide to get rid of your hair, waxing or laser are two great options.

One note:  If you are a guy who has a hairless chest and only has hair around your nipples – get rid of it.  It looks weird.  Really weird

Manscape Your Junk:

I have never met a woman who wants her man to be hairless down there.  A lot of times men will take it all off because they think it makes them look bigger.  I don’t necessarily think that’s true but I’m not going to deflate the hopes and dreams of men.  On the other hand, a jungle bush isn’t attractive either.  Keep it somewhere in between and make sure to take care of your boys too.

If you’ve never manscaped your junk before, don’t use a traditional razor. You’ll probably end up cutting yourself – ouch.  A wet / dry razor (like the one to your left) is the way to go.  Just remember to keep it short but don’t take it completely off.  If you take it completely off you’re going to end up a prickly mess and you’re not the only person who will be itchy from it.
