Dear Annabelle,

My boyfriend of 8 months ended it out of the blue saying that his head and heart were saying different things, that he had never felt that the spark and while he was away training he didn’t miss me.  After some time passed we started speaking again and eventually ended up sleeping together again.  After a month of me texting and him not responding, he informed me that he had left country to return to work and I should get on with my life.  I’m gutted about how this has ended and miss him loads, if I don’t call/text him will we be able to get over this or have I messed it up by texting?

The sad reality is that you haven’t messed up anything because there is nothing to mess up.  Despite sleeping together after breaking up, it is clear that your ex wants to remain an ex.  By his ignoring your texts and finally responding with move on with your life, it is crystal clear that he wants your relationship to be over but you refuse to hear what he’s saying.

It’s time for you to move on with your life.  You need to remove his number from your phone so you won’t contact him anymore and write him out of your life.  Moving on isn’t easy but spending your time pining for someone who is never going to get back together with you isn’t healthy or productive.  I always say that the easiest way to get over someone is to get under someone else.  It’s time to start dating again and let this guy go.
